Fear NO!

Does this sound familiar? Some people choose to look at problems, chaos, and terror and let it inflict fear. The let the evil wreck havoc on their minds. I’m not saying we shouldn’t address issues of chaos or terror or any problem for that matter. I’m simply saying that we should address it from a mind not founded on fear but on faith.

If we truly believe that God is who he says He is. And if we truly believe that He is a good God. If we truly believe that He holds all authority in heaven and on earth and has also given us the same authority… well then why should we address evil in any other way than with a foundation of faith?

Faith if being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we cannot see.

When Moses faced Pharaoh he stood on faith, instead of the fear of his earthly powered enemy. When Joshua sent 12 spies only 2 of the 12 choose to stand on faith instead of fear. When Rahab protected the spies while risking her own life, she choose to stand on faith. Joshua took Jericho because he had faith that walking around a city wall and singing was what God asked him to do and that in his faithfulness and obedience God would give him the city no one else could take. Ruth didn’t let the fear of being a poor widow decide her fate. Instead she choose to stay and stand on faith, faith in the God of Israel. She didn’t go back to her childhood home or her childhood gods. When David faced Goliath he stood on faith not fear and conquered a battle for the fearful Israelites. Esther didn’t live in fear of King Xerxes or Haman and saved an entire generation. Jeremiah had faith and lived a lifetime believing for the unseen. Daniel didn’t fear Nebuchadnezzar, Darius, or the lions. Jonah finally choose faith instead of fear in the belly of a fish.

All these people choose faith instead of fear and they didn’t even have the power an authority IN CHRIST that we do today. Their Messiah was still on his way. Our Messiah is here! Not only that but he gave us the Holy Spirit. Now we can be filled with the Holy Spirit, be in Christ who is in the Father. We are ONE. And as ONE we can choose faith over fear at any point at any time. Not that we ignore the grave reality in our lives but that we face that reality with faith. Where there is hope there is faith and where there is faith there is freedom. Freedom from fear is a miraculous thing. It’s empowering and emboldening. Be bold for Christ for His Kingdom is at hand!

The Morning

Recently I’ve started to fall in love with the morning. Ask anyone? They will tell you I have been known to HATE the mornings. Recently, I have found my spirit rising in the morning. There is something so beautiful about the morning. To some extent I may have known the beauty was there all along. Maybe I didn’t care to take it in before.

A few days ago I was driving early in the morning as the sun was just hitting the far horizon. I came up on a horse pasture and there it was, the bright orange sun sitting low, just breaking over the horizon. Those orange and golden rays of light hit the due east side of the tree trunks all the way from the base of the trunk to the tops of the fall colored leaves. The dew was now a gently rising fog off the pasture grass. It was glistening in the bright new light.

It was a busy morning, getting up and ready for work, getting my almost 1 year old up, changed, fed, changed again, packed for the day and on the road. Yet in the midst of a busy morning I found peace in the sunrise, I found a new beginning. I found strength for the day and hope for what is yet to come. I took in a deep breath. It spoke to my spirit within.

“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed,
for his compassions never fail.
They are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.”
– Lamentations 3:22-23

“Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love,
for I have put my trust in you.
Show me the way I should go,
for to you I entrust my life.”
– Psalm 143:8

Don’t be surprised to find me, risen with the golden sun. Curled up in my leather sofa with a cup of coffee welcoming in, the new morning, His mercies, His unfailing love.
